No logo ? No Space ? No life ? No future ? Presented by Nalinee Udomsinn If you’re one of those who spend a lot of time reading the news, you must have heard of “No Logo”, the Bible of the anti-globalization movement. The author’s name- Naomi Klein, on the contrary, may be unfamiliar, as the Canadian journalist turned out to be so famous in less than 24 hours! The book itself is a must read. Very clearly written and very sharp. You’ll literally feel like you are reading a novel. It’s divided into four parts- the introduction, followed by No Space, No Choice, No Jobs, and No Logo. Those names such as Nike, Mcdonald ‘s, Shell are stated. In fact, we’re so used to these multi-national firms. They’ve actually been there for a long time in our every day’s life but you’ll be so surprised to learn how little you know about them. The born- in - Oregon Nike, for example, pays its indonesian workers 2 US dollars a day to make its fashionable shoes that cost 5 dollars by pair to eventually sell it to YOU for 100-180 dollars! The book also interestingly discusses about advertisement and how the brand is more important than the product itself for so many companies. It’s very likely that you feel ‘cheated’ after your reading. I had the feeling all along. Its neat homepage may also be useful. Visit www.nologo.org, which will probably make you so eager to read the book. The book is also translated in French, which is, in my opinion, easier to read, than the original version. The translation in Thai could interests a large Thai public.
